Welcome To Our Department

I welcome you to the Department of Food Science and Technology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria the first Department of Food Science and Technology to be established in Nigeria in 1971. This great Department offers a five year B.Sc. Honours degree program in Food Science & Technology and in Food Engineering.

The Department trains students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to occupy leadership positions in the food industry, research institutes, academia, and governmental MDAs. Over the years our research programs (fundamental and applied researches) are designed to solve problems related to food and nutrition these have been achieved by expanding understanding of the microbiological, chemical, physical, sensory, nutritional, and engineering properties of foods. The Department has facilities in Teaching and Research in the areas of Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Nutrition, Food processing and preservation, Quality Control, Brewing, Baking Technology, Functional and Complementary Foods, Engineering, Biotechnology, etc. Our alumni are making giant strides in their various niches and are proud to be associated with the Department.

The Department has been blessed over the years with dedicated and committed staff who have distinguished themselves as outstanding international scholars and great administrators both within the University and the society in general. I welcome you to the Department of Food Science and Technology.
