I warmly welcome you to the Department of Food Science and Technology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Established in 1971 as the first Department of Food Science and Technology in Nigeria, we take pride in our rich history and pioneering role in food education and research.

Our department offers a comprehensive five-year B.Sc. Honours Degree program in Food Science & Technology and Food Engineering. We are committed to training undergraduate and postgraduate students to become future leaders in the food and allied industries, research institutes, academia, and government agencies. Our research encompasses both fundamental and applied studies aimed at solving critical issues related to food and nutrition, by advancing understanding of the microbiological, chemical, physical, sensory, nutritional, and engineering properties of foods.

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, our department specialises in Food Chemistry, Microbiology, Nutrition, Processing, Preservation, Quality Control, Brewing, Baking, Functional Foods, Biotechnology, Engineering and related areas.
